14 big Apple iPhone questions

10th January 2007 11:42AM

The iPhone looks awesome. I would love one, as I imagine millions of other people around the world would too. Unfortunately Apple is the worlds biggest tease, as the iPhone won't be available anywhere until June. Here's 10 14 big questions that remain unanswered:

  1. Cost - $499 or $599 on a 2 year contract. What will it cost not on contract? Will it even be available "uncontracted"?
  2. Time to launch - June for the US, Europe 4th quater, Asia 2008! We've only just started 2007.
  3. Availablility - Will small countries, such as New Zealand, even be able to buy the iPhone? Will we be able to bring them in from the US easily?
  4. Demand - Even when it is released, will Apple be able to keep up with demand?
  5. Complexity - A completely new Interface, with a whole new suite of apps. What could possibly go wrong?
  6. VOIP - Why no mention of iChat or Voice over IP? Too sensitive for the mobile networks?
  7. Install-ability - Can anyone install new apps on the thing? Is the OS as open as the Desktop OSX is? Can I run Apache and PHP on it?! Can I install 3rd party extra widgets? Skype? - It's increasingly looking like the answer is no, but who really knows until people can play with it
  8. Legality - Will Cisco have any problems with Apple using their iPhone trademark?
  9. Boomability - How many times did Steve Jobs say "Boom" in the keynote?
  10. WiFiability - Can I do anything over WiFi?
  11. Processorability - What processor does the iPhone have? Looks like Apple specifically haven't mentioned.
  12. Accessorisability - Will existing iPod accessories work with the iPhone? Dock connector? The keynote confirms a dock connector is present
  13. Replaceability - Where's the replaceable battery?! I guess most people throw away their phones by the time they need a new battery, but it's nice to have the choice.
  14. Mugability - Will the iPhone be even more of a target than the iPod?

Essential questions I guess will be answered with time. If anyone has answers leave a comment at digg
