New Stuff Including a New Header Design, Section Tabs and a Redesigned Footer

4th March 2007 10:28PM

We've given bla.st a big revamp, here are some of the new features:

  • New header design
bla.st now has some colour to make it more easily identifiable on screenshots, and to differentiate between the header and the content better. The new colour contrast also lets us show the currently selected tab very easily.
  • Card type tabs
Since we started bla.st we've been asking advertisers to specify the type of card they are placing. This has now been brought forward into the interface for the site.
  • Upgraded footer
Now features a detailed site map so the header doesn't need to be so crowded. All kinds of useful stuff down there.

So far most cards on bla.st have been typical directory style listings such as organisations, businesses, blogs and websites. Because bla.st allows short term listings the following new sections work really well: Events, competitions, and 'sales and specials'.

Events

Events can include one off events, such as a concert, sports game, parade, fair, field day, or any other local event. Global events and special days could also be loaded, for example "Movember" or "Shutdown Day" Because bla.st uses a flexible category system, up to 30 locations and categories can be loaded onto each card. Users will be able to browse all events or events for a specific location eg. bla.st/events/hamilton/.

Competitions

Wouldn't it be great if you could browse the competitions available for a particular prize you wanted? We're kicking off this section with an opportunity to win a Mac gear from macitt.com or a piece of art from Afraction in New Zealand. Hopefully lots more will be coming soon! Again each competition card can be tagged with locations or keywords to make browsing easy.

Sales and Specials

We all hate having advertising forced upon us, but sometimes it's really useful to know who's got a good deal on at the moment, especially when you're in the market to buy something. This is where the bla.st sales and specials section comes along. Anyone who's having a sale or product special can advertise themselves here with appropriate locations and keywords. Initially we imagine this section being used for international promotions, but could also be useful for national or local promotions.

These new categories will take a while to fill up, but any cards added to these sections also appear in the default "All Cards section". Searching also searches across all categories.

We'd love any feedback you have, either on the categories or the new header design contact us here. Coming soon is the much needed "Update Card Image" page :)

Digg these changes!
